Sony's rootkit

You've probably heard about Sony's dirty trick called the rootkit, installed on your PC when you insert an audio CD from the Sony music label.
I created this illustration regarding the subject matter, for the Dutch Computer!Totaal magazine, and I'm very flattered that the image has been published on BoingBoing.net as well!

what does that program do? Nice illo!! Man I hate when companies do that! This almost discourage people to buy CDs, may just download from iTune or something ...
Thanks Alina!
Yeah, Sony has been criticized a lot for this initiative. Then it turned out that even companies such as Norton installed a rootkit, until this became news and Norton quickly released a rootkit-free update. The hypocrits! :)
Cheerio,

Download from iTunes! Why would you do that? That's not a lot better, most content from iTunes is DRMed too. It doesn't go as far as installation of software on your computer, but it won't let you give it to a friend if you are tired of it, at least not without going to extra measures.
it seems to me this whole rootkit debacle can be eliminated by simply refusing to buy music from big companies....refuse to buy music of any kind. sure, it will hurt at first, but if enough people were to simply STOP BUYING MUSIC, then, perhaps, the big-brother types would sit-up and pay attention to what the "BUYING" public really wants.
Wow, awesome. I found your link via boingboing and then thought... I know that name. Your are the gfx guy from Team Hoi!!!
Many thanks for Hoi all those years back and of course the demos ^_^
Thanks very much! It's really flattering to notice that people still have fond memories of our computer games and demos, about twelve to fifteen years since they were released!
All the best,
Metin
